Welcome to our 2017 Junior Program at Spring Creek Ranch.

Over the past few years, we have introduced and developed a program necessary for junior golfers to not only enjoy the game but compete at top high school and college levels. Whether your child has an ambition to grow their golf game or just wants to become more interested in the game, we are here to help!

In the spring, we have one-day junior clinics on Sundays from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. These one-day clinics will move to Wednesday afternoons from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM during the summer. Also for the summer, we have two week-long junior camps on the schedule.

In 2017, we have decided to devote our Wednesday junior clinics to teaching course etiquette, course management, and preparation to improve each junior's game.

Our Program Philosophy

At some point in each of our lives, golf has given us something special to remember. As a golf staff at Spring Creek Ranch, our passion is to pass on our love and knowledge of the game so that future generations may experience something special in golf.

Every junior may not have the ability to be the next touring pro, but every junior has the ability to love the game. Our mission is to teach the fundamentals of golf and foster a love for the game that can be shared with family and friends. We also want to provide an opportunity for juniors who want to improve and have goals for golf.

Junior Groups

We will have separate junior groups based on age and experience. Our youngest age or least experienced group will focus on the fundamental motions of the golf swing, basic mechanics for the short game, as well as golf etiquette and sportsmanship. This group will generally be for ages 5 to 9.

Our next group will focus on junior golfers with a little more experience. We will further develop skills and course awareness so they may be able to play the course independently.

Juniors with considerable experience with the game will comprise the advanced group. This group will develop their knowledge and skills for their golf game so they may be able to compete in junior tournaments.

JAM League and PGA Junior League will begin near the end of June and continue into the second week of August.

About Our Golf Staff

Head Golf Professional Matt Brock has formed a successful golf career and has translated his skills into teaching. Matt has won on the collegiate and professional level and developed a foundation for success in teaching and developing junior golfers.

Our primary goal is to assist in the development of young golfers to achieve their personal goals, whatever they may be.

Member Accomplishments

We’ve had some great representation from the members of our club lately.  Yesterday, Drew Miller, the 2017 Junior Club Champion, qualified for US Open Sectionals after a 66 at Jackson Country Club.  We had seven current members finish in the top 4 of the MGA Four-Ball Tournament last weekend.  In two weeks, we will several members playing in the Tennessee State Open.  Keep up the momentum, Ranchers!

Policy Infractions

There have been several instances of policy infractions around the club recently.  Dress code should be observed at all times.  Members are responsible for their guest(s).  T-shirts, denim and/or cargo pants/shorts are forbidden.  Hats must be worn forward, and shirts should be tucked in at all times.

Also, there has been some complaints about loud music and yelling.  Please abide by the 30-yard rule: if you can hear your music further than 30 yards, it may be too loud.  I, myself, like to have some tunes going while on the course.  But it’s important not to disturb anyone else while doing so.

New Golf Shop Personnel

I have some new staff for the Golf Shop!  Mr. Randy McLendon started last week.  He has experience in several different avenues and should be a huge addition with his detailed and calm demeanor.  Next week, we have Mrs. Andrea Tate, who will immediately grab your attention with her engaging personality.  We will have one intern in the golf shop, Mr. Mitch Otten, who comes from Eastern Kentucky University.  Be sure to stop by and introduce yourself!

Junior Clinics

We have some Junior Clinics approaching.  On May 28th, we have a one-hour clinic for beginners or brand new juniors.  It will be held from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. We will go over basic setup and movements of the golf swing.  Preferred age is 6 and older.  Price is $25 per junior.

We will have another junior day on Wednesday, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  If you are interested, please contact the Golf Shop at 901-853-5650 or

Tee Time Reservation Policies

I am enclosing the policies for the peak season.  There are some changes but should make the experience more pleasurable for everyone.  If you have any questions, please be sure to contact me.

Walk-By from the Pro (May 5th)

We haven't quite been able to shake the rain this spring.  Having this much rain can have a negative effect on the golf course.  Be sure to check with Stephen’s Agronomy Weekly on diseases and growth issues the rain can cause.

We had our inaugural stroke play event, The Oak, this past weekend.  Despite getting rained out on Sunday, we had a successful tournament.  With very tough conditions, Chad Houchin and Bill West won their respective flights.  Congratulations to both of them!

Ladies have their Member-Guest tournament, the Bayou Bling on May 17th and 18th.  The format will be four-person select-shot played on Thursday, May 18th.  There will a cocktail party on Wednesday, May 17th, after the optional practice round.  If you are interested in more details, you can email me at

We have our first one-day junior clinic on May 28th from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. We will go over basic technique and motions of the golf swing.  Preferred ages are 6 and over.  Entry will be $25 per person.  Please call the Golf Shop to sign up.

We are constantly getting new apparel in the Golf Shop.  This month, we have headwear from Pukka, shoes from Sketchers and Under Armour, and constant shipments from Peter Millar, FootJoy, and Adidas.  Adidas has started a new line, called Adipure, that was worn by Justin Rose in the Masters.  There are only eight golf clubs around the state that will carry this line.  Ours should arrive next week.  We also have some T-shirts from Levelwear arriving this month.  Be sure to come check everything out.

The Stampede, which is our popular member-member match play event, is in two weeks.  We are taking signups for the May 19th through 21st event.  The entry fee is $75 per player and will include lunch on Friday. Tee times will be Friday after lunch, Saturday all day, and Sunday morning.  We will play 36 holes for those that move through. If you are interested in playing or have questions, please contact the Golf Shop at 853-5650.

If you haven’t already gotten the SCR app, it could be most beneficial.  Information regarding daily course conditions, daily food specials, and up-to-date postings are spread through the app.  If you need assistance, contact our Communications Manager, Jason Williams.

Keep the birdies rolling,

Matthew Brock

Spring Creek Ranch had a very successful week in both men’s and women’s interclub tournaments.  Last Wednesday & Thursday, the ladies successfully defended the Bash and returned the cup back to Spring Creek Ranch.  The Bash is the interclub tournament between our ladies and the ladies from TPC Southwind.

The men traveled to Chenal Country Club in Little Rock, Ark., this past weekend to participate in the Southern Cup Invitational.  The Southern Cup Invitational includes 16-man teams from Chenal Country Club, Old Waverly, the Ledges and SCR.  After falling behind on the first day, SCR rallied with two big days on Saturday and Sunday to return the trophy back to SCR.  Congratulations to both our teams!

There’s several things going on at the Ranch in the coming month.  This weekend, we have our inaugural stroke play event, The Oak.  Entry fee is $80 and includes lunch on Saturday.  Tee times will be after lunch on Saturday and from 9:30-11:30 on Sunday.  The winner of the championship flight will receive an exemption into the Tennessee Mid-Am in September.  Please call the Golf Shop or apply online here.  The deadline will be 2 PM on Friday.  We will post tee times by 5 PM on Friday.

The Stampede, our member-member match play, will be hosted Friday, May 19th, through Sunday, May 21st.  Sign-ups will begin this Saturday.  There will not be a qualifier this year.  Teams will be drawn based on handicap for positioning purposes.  Any teams outside the top 16 will have a play-in match on Friday morning.  The entry fee is $65 and includes lunch on Friday.  Deadline for sign-up will be Wednesday, May 17th, at 5 PM.

The Junior Program is completed, and information will go out in the next week.  If your child is interested in interclub league play, please contact me at 901-853-5650.  We have one-day clinics and two week-long clinics on the schedule for this coming year.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions at

As I was marking the course this week, I found several golf balls.  Several of those balls were our practice balls that we use on the range and short game facilities.  These golf balls are for practice areas only.  It is detrimental to the operation and budget to use these balls on the golf course.  Please help us ensure that these balls remain at the practice facility. Thank you for your cooperation!

Third Thursday

Gather your friends, family or co-workers to join you for a great day at the Ranch! Guest rates are $75 including a cart. We will also have a team best ball competition for members and their guest(s)!

Walk-By from the Pro

If you didn’t watch the Masters this past weekend, you missed a great finish and breakthrough for Sergio Garcia.  We also had the privilege to host The Classic on Monday and Tuesday.  Top golf professionals and amateurs from across the state competed in windy and rainy conditions for 36 holes.  The compliments were overwhelming.  Matt Cooper won in a playoff over Jackson’s Marshall Talkington. Results of other Ranch members can be found here.

I have noticed several policy infractions over the past month.  The dress code is imperative to the culture of Spring Creek Ranch.  Members must wear collared shirts and appropriate shorts or slacks when using the facility.  Hats must be worn forward at all times.  No denim allowed on the golf course.  This includes all practice facilities!

Also, juniors that do not have a driver’s license are prohibited from using a golf cart.  This also includes driving from the south end of the practice facility to the north end.  For insurance reasons, please allow us to shuttle you to your desired destination.

This weekend, we will have a sale going on in the Golf Shop for Easter.  There will be eggs hidden around the shop for a percentage off your purchase.  You could get up to 50% off your entire purchase!

The Oak, our new stroke play event, will be held April 29th and 30th.  Tee times will start at 12:00 on Saturday and start around 9:30 on Sunday.  The entry fee is $80 and it will include lunch on Saturday.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact the Golf Shop at (901) 853-5650 or

We will have some information going out in the next week regarding our junior program.  Starting May 7th, we will have our first one-day clinic at 2:30-3:30.  The price will be $20 per junior and we will go over basic setup and technique.  Also, the JAM league, which is our Junior Interclub League, will start in June.  We will have more information to follow.

Next Thursday, we will have a reduced guest rates on Third Thursday.  We will also have a best ball competition available for members and their guest.  We look forward to seeing you!

The greens have been fantastic!  With the heat, the course should really start to pop.  We have moved off the mats on the south end of the driving range for Friday-Sunday.  Be sure to come out and see us!

Keep the birdies rolling,

Matthew Brock, PGA

We're saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Stan Smith on Sunday morning. Doc Smith was a warm personality that greeted everyone at the Ranch by stating he's "better than I deserve." He will certainly be missed by everyone at SCR.
