Fall is quickly approaching with school starting back and football starting. The FedEx playoffs have gotten off to exciting start with an epic playoff between Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson. In case you missed it, DJ hit a 340-yard drive and a wedge to 4 feet to win the Northern Trust and take the lead in the playoffs.
Labor Day Golf
If you get motivated by such golf, we have a fun-filled weekend of golf ahead for you. We will be open on Monday for Labor Day with an optional skins game. We also have a special offering for football Saturday that involves the new Ladd’s house. We look forward to seeing everyone this weekend.
If you want to pick up those extra yards, we have a training device that can help you pick up as much as 10 miles per hour on your driver swing speed called Super Speed Sticks. That’s an extra 30 yards.
New Merchandise in the Golf Shop
Several of the golf brands have new equipment out this fall. I have designed a new belt buckle with the very popular NexBelt. The embossed belts are now available in the Golf Shop.
Ping and Titleist have new metals and irons released. Check in with Scott Felix to get fit and get fixed.
We also have outerwear and rain gear coming in daily to help you fight the elements. Summer apparel is going on sale for huge discounts. Come get decked out in the leaf!
U.S. Senior Amateur
John Fisher and Buzz Fly advanced to match play in the U.S. Senior Amateur this past week. Both members made it through stroke play. Buzz was eliminated in the first round, and John Fisher made it to the round of 32. Great playing and representation by both SCR members. Congratulations!
The Buby Cup
After a tight race in the Buby Cup, our Ladies' Club Championship, Jekka Pinckney was able to pull away and become victorious. Holly Elkins, who held the first day lead, and Mimi Gibson both made a run for the gross division. Angela Davis won the Net division, while Loree Horton and Laurie Herzog had the fewest putts for the two days. Cindy MacAulay won the Sportsmanship Award. Way to go, ladies!
Tennessee State Mid Amateur
Next week we have the privilege to host the Tennessee State Mid Amateur. We will have the top players from across Tennessee competing, including about 15 of our top member players. There will be some restrictions on course availability during this time. I fully expect one of our members to hoist the trophy come Saturday afternoon.
We have several tournaments coming up in the next two months. The Nicklaus Cup, our Senior Club Championship, will be held on September 16th and 17th. We have started sign-ups in the Golf Shop, so be sure to sign up before Thursday, September 14th at 5 pm. The entry fee is $60 per person and includes lunch on Saturday and appetizers on Sunday.
The rain continues and the course continues to take a beating. When we get this amount of rain in such a short amount of time, it greatly affects our preparation of the course. Bunkers wash out and debris covers the course. Fairways, rough, and tees become difficult to mow on a regular basis. Please continue to check in with Stephen Cox to find out what’s going on with agronomy.
If you are traveling this weekend, please be careful. Hopefully, we will see everyone out and let me know who will win the Florida State-Alabama game. Thanks for checking in!
Keep the birdies rolling,
Matthew Brock, PGA
