Congratulations to Buzz Fly, who advanced from the stroke play stage to the match play stage at the U.S. Senior Amateur in Eugene, Oregon. Fly won his first two matches before falling in the Round of 16.
Fly shot 77-73 in the stroke play portion of the event, tying for 33rd place. In the Round of 64, Fly faced off against Oregon native Pat O'Donnell and emerged victorious 3&1. The match was all square after 11 holes, but Fly won three consecutive holes to take a commanding lead.
In the Round of 32, Fly faced the #1 overall seed in Colorado native Gregory Condon. Both competitors battled the front nine before turning at all square. Fly took holes #11 and #13 before the pair halved each remaining hole.
In the Round of 16, Fly's opponent, Michael McCoy of Iowa, caught lightning in a bottle by winning four of the first five holes before cruising to a 5&4 victory.
